On April 29, 1999 one of Canada's most well-known mountaineers lost his life  while climbing a new route on an unclimbed peak in Alaska.  On that day Jim Haberl's life was cut short, but the light he left in the lives of all those he touched continues to inspire.

Jim was an internationally known author, lecturer, mountain guide, husband and friend. He touched many lives with his indomitable spirit and unselfish nature. Jim approached everything he did with passion and vigor.

As a tribute to Jim's memory and in honour of the spirit in which he lived his life, the friends and family of Jim have established a non-profit organization with the intended purpose of benefiting the climbing community and the environment. Our first project is to build a climbers hut in the Tantalus mountains in southwestern B.C. in conjunction with the Alpine Club of Canada and  with the assistance of the 192nd Airfield Engineers.
